. . . . .Rosuvastatin is an oral drug for lowering blood cholesterol levels. It belongs to a class of drugs called HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, more commonly referred to as 'statins'. Other drugs in this class include simvastatin (Zocor), lovastatin (Mevacor), pravastatin (Pravachol), atorvastatin (Lipitor) and fluvastatin (Lescol). These drugs reduce cholesterol levels by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme that produces cholesterol in the liver. Rosuvastatin and other statins lower blood total cholesterol as well as blood LDL cholesterol levels. LDL cholesterol is the 'bad' type of cholesterol that increases the risk of coronary artery disease (atherosclerosis) and heart attacks. Lowering LDL cholesterol levels slows the progression of coronary artery disease and may even reverse it. Statins also increase HDL cholesterol, the 'good' type of cholesterol, and reduce triglycerides. Rosuvastatin is used for the reduction of blood total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels and to increase HDL cholesterol levels. . . . . . . . . . . . . Common uses -This medicine is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (also known as a "statin") used with a proper diet to help lower cholesterol and fat (triglyceride) levels and to raise good cholesterol (HDL) levels in your blood. Rosuvastatin is a cholesterol-lowering medication that blocks the production of cholesterol (a type of fat) in the body. It works by reducing levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing levels of "good" cholesterol. CRESTOR is a member of the statin class; the drugs of first choice for the treatment of dyslipidaemia. Multiple clinical studies have confirmed the effectiveness of CRESTOR in reducing LDL-C ('bad' cholesterol) and raising HDL-C ('good' cholesterol). CRESTOR (rosuvastatin) is a statin indicated for the treatment of dyslipidaemia. Crestor is used with diet changes (restriction of cholesterol and fat intake) to reduce the amount of cholesterol and certain fatty substances in your blood. Accumulation of cholesterol and fats along the walls of your arteries (a process known as atherosclerosis) decreases blood flow and therefore the oxygen supply to your heart, brain, and other parts of your body. Lowering your blood level of cholesterol and fats may help to prevent heart disease, angina (chest pain), strokes, and heart attacks. RAZEL (Crestor) belongs to the group of medications known as HMG CoA reductase inhibitors (also known as "statins"). It is used in addition to diet and exercise to lower cholesterol levels. It works by blocking an enzyme that helps make cholesterol in the body. As a result, less cholesterol is made, decreasing the overall levels of cholesterol in the blood. Individuals with high blood cholesterol levels have a higher risk of heart disease such as heart attack. When cholesterol levels are lowered through a combination of medication, diet, and exercise, the risk of heart disease is lowered as well. It takes 2 to 4 weeks to see the maximum effect of Crestor on cholesterol levels in blood tests. Your doctor may have suggested Crestor for conditions other than the ones listed in these drug information articles. If you have not discussed this with your doctor or are not sure why you are taking Crestor, speak to your doctor. Do not stop taking Crestor without consulting your doctor.
